About Me

Hi, I’m Dulany F. Sriner. Some of my friends call me Big “D”  or just “D”  but most call me Dulany. I’m the kind of guy that never did like nicknames; although I have had more than my share.  My Step-dad called me “Joe Bodey” don’t ask me why. If I had to pick his brain in retrospect, I would say he wanted me to appear more “common”.  He constantly tried to put me down.  I’m not complaining because everything in the past is that;  in the past; and we learn and grow because of, or in spite of it.

I guess I am one of those slightly nerdy guys because I love technology.  I marvel at simple things like the cell phone not that it is really that simple. I grew up with a rotary dial phone and a 4 digit phone number.  Yup, I’m one of the “baby boomers” . I missed the great depression but felt its effects and heard the stories. I grew up listening to the radio. I would lay on the carpeted floor and listen to the squeaking doors of mystery shows like the “The Shadow”

I was never much of a reader and often said, “I would rather write a story than read one.”  If you saw me reading, I was trying to learn something.  That is true to today.  I had lots of good times in school and while I was often the class clown, I seldom got in trouble because I was smart enough to not get caught.  There was that time we skipped school and went to New Salem and sent postcards back to the school. That was not one of my more intelligent decisions. It seemed funny at the time. My whit has pulled me through many of life’s hard time. If you can laugh at it, you can conquer it.

I had several part-time jobs during high school but my first real job was as an electronic technician with Motorola in Chicago. My first year of marriage was in Chicago where  I continued with Motorola  night shift and went to Northeastern University (The old Chicago Teachers College) during the day .  After over two years in Chicago, I knew the big city was not for me and we moved back to our hometown Springfield, IL and we have been here ever since. We are still in our first home although it has been remodeled beyond recognition.

I spent 5 years teaching 7th & 8th grade math and science at Blessed Sacrament School and when I left, I was the science coordinator.  As a trained electronics technician, I jumped on the Citizen’s Band Radio interest and started a retail business named White Knight Electronics.  During the Summer, I also had my own residential remodeling company, Summertime Construction Co. Although I loved working with the kids, I knew I had to concentrate on something with more financial security and after 5 years,  I left teaching and ran my remodeling business full time.

I opened a Metaphysical book store in the latter 70’s . This was along with the construction business and a home inspection business.  During this same time, I was the president of EHA in Springfield (Expanding Human Awareness).  By the early 80’s , I knew Springfield was not quite ready to support my new age business and  I closed down and went back to  construction.

As a certified home inspection professional, I was again just a little ahead of my time. I was one of the fist downstate and the first in Springfield.  I continued in this business until 2000 under the business name of the Hose Doctor.  After that, I continued the House Doctor business but went back to the remodeling.   It was during this same period, I added computer repair and web design to my list of services.

Throughout my life, I have always needed an artistic outlet.  That translated to the design and interior decorating  part of my construction work.  My larger projects often included custom designed and built woodworking but my real love was photography.  It had been a hobby since my early days in junior high school and continued through my adult life. As my construction work began to slack off with age, I found I had time to fine tune my photography skills and I invested in better equipment.  My photography took on a life of its own and sometime in the early 2000’s it went from a hobby to another professional skill.  At that time DSDigitals was born.  It became intertwined with my web design services.

Now, I consider myself retired from my construction business. My construction equipment has been replaced by camera equipment and computer software. Vacations have transformed into Photo outings as I am fully immersed in this previously unchanneled artistic drive.

Did I mention that I love to write? The length of this short Bio should be evidence of that.  My life’s bucket has always been filled with life’s gifts and talents and now I am trying to share my gifts with others before they just leak out of this aging bucket.

I love to write; I love to teach and I love to create beautiful things but the true value of each is only realized when they can bring understanding and  joy to others. My hope is that this web presence will do that.

Love and Light,,
Dulany F Sriner
